Air Transat with direct flights from Toronto to Rio Hato (Playa Blanca)
Don't get confused with the destination's name: Originally, it is Rio Hato airport, named after the small town nearby.
It has played a role in December 1989 when US troops landed here in Operation Just Cause to take out dictator Manuel Noriega. His beach house ist nearby, still in ruins.
Reconstructed, expanded and re-opened in 2013 it has been named to honor Scarlett Martinez. However, more popular are the nearby beaches of Playa Blanca, right under the final approach to runway 34. So the airport is linked to this as well.
Anyway, after Sunwing this is the second Canadian airline bringing tourists to the all-inclusive beach hotels.
Or to their own oceanview condo, 10 minutes only away. How about you?
